At FRAY Studio, we’ve been pioneers in video design for theatre from the art form’s earliest experiments through to today’s large-scale productions. Across two decades of work in the West End, Broadway, and beyond, we’ve helped shape how video and projection enhance storytelling on stage. Our approach has always been to create compelling, story-driven imagery that unites light, sound, set, and performance into a single expressive picture.
A Holistic and Collaborative Approach
We see every production as a living collaboration between disciplines. Our role is to integrate video seamlessly into a show’s wider design language—never to dominate it. We create flexible frameworks that allow ideas to evolve, expand, or be refined as the production takes shape. Working openly with directors, designers, and technical teams ensures our visuals are not an addition, but an essential part of the storytelling process.
Shaping the Language of Modern Theatre
FRAY Studio has contributed to many landmark productions where video redefined what theatre could be. From work with Kaite Mitchell, Complicité, and Simon McBurney to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time—a breakthrough in narrative projection—to Back to the Future: The Musical, where a DeLorean appears to reach 88 miles an hour on stage, our work continues to push how audiences experience space, motion, and emotion through video.
Technology, Storytelling, and Innovation
Our passion lies in finding balance between creativity and technology. We use digital tools not for spectacle alone, but to serve the performance and its story. Whether through projection mapping, LED integration, or scenic video, our focus is always on how moving image and live action combine to create something greater than either can achieve alone.
Recognised and Award-Winning Excellence
The work of Finn Ross, Adam Young, and the FRAY Studio team has been honoured with international awards and critical acclaim. More importantly, our collaborative philosophy continues to earn the trust of artists, producers, and creative directors worldwide. We remain dedicated to exploring how video can enrich theatre—not as decoration, but as storytelling.
