Projection Mapping Design and Production by Adam Young of FRAY Studio

Projection Designer: Adam Young, FRAY Studio worked alongside Director Freddie Wake-Walker to projection map the prison-like scenic design.

The setting of the prison is reminiscent of a larger system as well as a representation of the inner workings of the mind. The use of live video image is intended to disconnect the audience from the performance on one hand, while also bringing an intense level of intimacy to the stage as performers faces can be seen in close-up framing.

Getting closer to the heart of the emotion of the performance on stage is something, that even now in 2026, is still desirable across theatre and live music through the use of iMag cameras. Camera As Content is an exciting method that uses the screen devices that often separate us from one another to re-build intimacy at scale.

FRAY Studio have spent 15 years utilising film and camera techniques via real-time software like Notch and more recently Touch Designer. Blending cameras with more 'traditional' video animation to create a whole stage design reaps satisfying rewards and FRAY Studio have been championing this movement as it has become more popular.
