FRAY Studio partnered with Scene Productions and Ammonite Studio to create the video design for a new musical celebrating the life and work of Abdulhussain Abdulredha. A cultural icon across the Gulf region, Abdulhussain was known for his political humour, his influence on television and theatre, and his lasting impact on generations of performers and audiences. FRAY developed video content for multiple display formats, including rear projection, gauzes, and LED screens. With so many surfaces distributed throughout the stage environment, the goal was to establish a single, coherent visual language that could unify the changing locations and moods of the show. Each piece of content was designed to shift fluidly across formats, maintaining clarity and atmosphere regardless of scale or texture. The visual world drew heavily on materials connected directly to Abdulhussain’s legacy. His family generously shared an extensive archive of footage, photographs, and memorabilia, providing authentic references that shaped the tone and detail of the design. Using these elements, FRAY constructed layered scenic environments that blended archival references with contemporary stage aesthetics, allowing the show to move between past and present without losing continuity. By integrating these materials into the narrative fabric of the production, the video design became a tool for world-building, evoking the era, the humour, and the cultural landscape that shaped Abdulhussain’s work. Every choice, from colour to composition, was made to support the storytelling and to honour the real history behind the production.
