DANCIN'
Bob Fosse’s DANCIN’ is a vibrant celebration of the art form that Fosse shaped, transformed and pushed into new territory. Reimagined for the twenty first century, this production brings a renewed sense of colour, emotion and warmth to some of Fosse’s most inventive and rarely performed choreography. The aim of the staging is to honour the precision and musicality of his work while presenting it in a way that feels alive for contemporary audiences.
FRAY Studio designed the video element that forms the upstage wall of the set. The brief was to treat video as part of the choreography, not as a background layer. The content needed to move with the dancers, responding to rhythm, tone and dynamic shifts with the same level of clarity and intention that defines Fosse’s movement style. Rather than functioning as a fixed scenic element, the video became an active part of the visual language of the show.
Working alongside the moving scenery, the video design helped create a stage picture that was always in motion. Colour, light and texture shifted in precise relation to the choreography, allowing the content to feel like an extension of the performers rather than a separate system. This approach supported the musicality of the piece and helped the production achieve a sense of fluidity across the entire stage.
The result is a visual environment that amplifies the expressive power of Fosse’s choreography while offering a fresh and contemporary interpretation of his iconic style.
