Real-Time Tools, Real-Time Imagination

At FRAY Studio, we’ve spent years exploring how real-time technology can transform stage video design and concert visuals for live shows. What excites us most isn’t the software itself, it’s the moment where technology and creativity meet. Technology is our toolbox, not our destination. We stay clear of gimmicks and keep our focus on meaning, feeling, and audience experience.

Tools That Shape the Moment

Our real-time work spans Unreal Engine, Notch, TouchDesigner, and custom-built applications tailored to specific shows. With dedicated creative technologists on our team, we fuse unexpected tools into single show systems that push beyond predictable solutions. Whether we’re building concept visuals, tour content design, or dynamic live camera effects, we’re always chasing new ways to make performances feel immediate and alive.

Real-time systems let animation breathe with the performer. Even without timecode, visuals can respond to gestures, movement, or behaviour; turning performance into control. And when a band is onboard, we can take MIDI inputs and sculpt visuals right there in the moment. It’s video design that doesn’t sit still; it performs.

Making Creativity Move Faster

Behind the scenes, real-time technology also empowers our workflow. Rendering detailed 3D scenes in Unreal or Notch takes a fraction of the time compared to traditional pipelines. That speed means faster iteration, quicker experimentation, and the ability to respond to “hey, what if we try this?” ideas before they evaporate. It keeps the making of the show just as fluid and dynamic as the show itself.

Built With Collaboration

We’re proud to have contributed to the development of many of these tools, to have a close working relationship with Notch, and to be an accredited Unreal Studio Partner. Real-time technology isn’t just something we work with, it’s something we help shape, in service of richer projection design, more adventurous video design, and ever-more compelling live experiences.
