Over The Moon
Netflix’s animated hit Over The Moon commissioned an xR music video to showcase the film’s feature song Rocket to the Moon. The project required a real performance by Cathy Ang, the voice of Fei Fei, placed inside the animated world of the film. The challenge was to build a version of the environment that felt faithful to the original movie while functioning smoothly in real time.
FRAY Studio collaborated with Trailer Park, Mirada Studio, Boum Creative and Savages to construct a complete real time recreation of one of the film’s central locations. The team rebuilt the village environment, including the canal, a dynamic weeping willow and a detailed dock that served as the stage for Cathy Ang’s performance. Each element had to retain the warmth and character of the film while remaining responsive and lightweight enough for real time rendering.
Alongside the village environment, FRAY created a series of infinite reflective space lakes that expanded the visual possibilities of the piece. Assets from the original film were re modelled and adapted to work in real time, allowing them to move fluidly through space and integrate with the interactive lighting and camera systems used on set.
The project required close coordination among all four collaborating companies. Everyone worked inside the same Unreal Engine project with a carefully managed source control system to maintain consistency, versioning and stability across the shared environment. This collaborative approach ensured that all visual components aligned both artistically and technically.
The result is a seamless blend of live performance and digital world building that brings Over The Moon into an immersive xR format while preserving the charm and emotional tone of the original film.
