The Art Of Loving Tour

Scaling Intimacy: FRAY Studio & 1826 Design Olivia Dean’s ‘Art of Loving’ Tour

FRAY Studio teamed up with 1826 Studio to design the video for Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving tour, a production that redefines how intimacy is scaled for the arena stage. Moving away from the conventional placement of IMAG (image magnification) on side-screens, this design places the live camera at the very heart of the performance, projecting a cinematic, real-time narrative directly onto the stage.

The Stage as a Living Canvas

At the centre of the production is a large, curved back drape that serves as a living canvas for Olivia and her band. The creative vision was built on integration rather than distraction. By utilising the drapes as the sole projection surface, the design ensures the audience’s gaze never leaves the performer. The result is a show that captures and amplifies the energy of the performance, making even the furthest seat feel like a front-row experience.

Real-Time Artistry and Technical Innovation

The video brief focused on a sophisticated, clean, and cinematic aesthetic. Rather than relying on pre-rendered content, the show is driven by real-time camera feeds treated with intricate colour grading.

Using custom LUTs and Notch workflows, the team graded camera in real-time to create a specific feel for every song. These techniques allowed us to:

- Highlight the subtle relationships between Olivia and her band.

- Turn technical camera work into a thematic extension of the music.

- Maintain a cohesive visual language across the entire set.

A Soulful Visual Identity

Through rigorous technical alignment and real-time effects, we created a visual identity as soulful and authentic as the artist on stage, a deeply connected, visual response to the music of Olivia Dean.
