Sam Fender
Sam Fender’s 2022 arena tour confirmed his status as one of the few contemporary artists able to sell out major venues with ease. FRAY Studio worked with Vision Factory to create the video and content design, shaping a visual world that supported the raw honesty and emotional weight of his music. The aim was to bring his themes to life on a large scale while staying true to the grounded, working class sensibility that defines his songwriting.
The design focused on dark, restrained imagery that reflected the somber, human tone of many of Sam’s lyrics. Rather than overwhelming the stage with spectacle, the visuals were built to enhance the storytelling and reinforce the atmosphere of each song. The content needed to sit close to the performance, offering support without drawing attention away from the narrative core of the music.
The show combined live cameras with animated content, which required a clear and unified visual language. FRAY used a strict colour palette and minimal textural detail to create a consistent look across both elements. This allowed the transitions between live feed and animation to feel smooth and intentional. The relationship between the video content and Sam Tozer’s set design was carefully considered throughout the process. By responding to the architecture and the placement of screens, the visuals could shift the space from tight and enclosed during introspective moments to open and expansive during bigger, high energy sections.
The final result is a visual environment that complements Sam Fender’s music with sensitivity and precision, offering scale without losing intimacy and helping each song land with clarity and emotional force.
