Years & Years
For the tour of Years and Years’ second album Palo Santo, FRAY Studio brought the fictional city of the same name to life on stage. The aim was to translate the world introduced in the album’s music videos, artwork and social media campaign into a coherent live environment that surrounded the performance and deepened the audience’s connection to the narrative.
The video content was designed to sit naturally within the established visual identity of Palo Santo. FRAY created a wide range of material, from fully animated three dimensional cityscapes to lo fi, 1990s inspired music promo sequences. Each element worked within the same creative vocabulary, ensuring that the visuals felt like an extension of the wider campaign rather than a separate layer. The design needed to balance futuristic scale with a slightly rough, analog edge that matched the tone of the album’s story world.
Throughout the show, the content guided fans through different parts of the fictional city. Audiences flew over sprawling skyline environments, travelled down narrow back alleys, stepped inside theatres and watched an MTV style television channel built specifically for the production. These shifting environments helped create a sense of movement and scale, allowing the live performance to move fluidly between intimate moments and larger narrative beats.
By maintaining strong alignment with the album’s campaign and world building, the show offered fans a complete Palo Santo experience that expanded the story beyond the screen and into the live arena.
