Sarwat Watan
Sarwat Watan was an immersive production created by Cirque du Soleil in Riyadh as part of the National Day celebrations. The show combined movement, acrobatics and large scale visual environments to tell a story shaped by the elements. Its characters travelled through a world defined by earth, sky and water, each element forming a distinct chapter in the narrative.
FRAY Studio provided the video design for the production, selecting tools that best supported the shifting tone and the technical challenges of each moment. The team worked with After Effects, Notch and Unreal, choosing the platform that offered the right texture, responsiveness or level of detail for the scene being created. This flexible approach allowed the visuals to move between grounded natural imagery and more stylised, atmospheric environments.
The depiction of the elements had to interact directly with the physical staging. Projection needed to land cleanly on voile fabric, moving scenery and water surfaces, each of which responded differently to light and colour. The show was run through a VYV Photon system, which provided the precision required to map content onto these complex surfaces. This ensured that the visuals felt cohesive across the various materials and that transitions between environments were smooth and controlled.
The result is an elemental world that supports the movement and scale of the production, helping the story unfold across a series of immersive and visually distinct environments.
