FRAY Studio was entrusted with the task of reimagining a key physical set element for PJ Harvey's show for the summer festival season. A beautiful backcloth designed by Rae Smith, which had accompanied the tour but was too delicate for the fast paced nature of the festival circuit needed to be recreated with video.

In collaboration with PJ Harvey's team and Louisa Smurthwaite, we undertook a two-day film shoot with Two and Eight Productions. The aim was to capture the cloth's life during the show, its gentle movements, intricate construction, and interaction with various lighting states.

Post-production saw us editing and grading the footage on an LED wall, ensuring a faithful recreation of the original. Our aspiration was to create a digital presence so authentic that audiences would be unable to distinguish it from the physical cloth.

The project needed attention to detail, with time devoted to perfecting every aspect of the digital rendition, creating a digital cloth that would seamlessly blend with the performance.
